Look who’s crawling!

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 by Leslie Paladino

We’ve been waiting for months for Peter Michael to crawl and today he FINALLY started his broke leg crawl.  It’s the funniest crawl I’ve ever seen.  It looks like someone broke both of his legs and he just has to pull himself along.  He can get up in position with his legs in the “normal” crawl position with no problem but for some reason he prefers this.  I know he’s going to be into everything but I really am ready for him to crawl so that he isn’t so frustrated.  We’ll see what I’m saying in a few days.

For an update on Hoppy, Gabby has been doing good with it.  She slept fine last night and hasn’t asked for him too much today.  It’s just when she’s feeling whiny that she wants him but she hasn’t actually gotten upset over him.  She did not want to take a nap today but I don’t think that has anything to do with Hoppy.  She just wasn’t tired.  Tonight she went to bed with no problems.  I know it probably sounds cruel to take away her lovey but we just felt like it was holding her back a little and we wanted to see how she did without him.  We would bring him back if she really got upset over it but so far so good.

This was his second crawl a few seconds after he did it for the first time.  Luckily Michael was home for lunch and got to witness the miracle.

He’s already improving on his broke leg crawling skills.

We’ll miss you Hoppy

Today is a very sad day in our house.  Gabby’s best friend Hoppy went home to his mommy and daddy in Hoppy Land.  Daddy drove him to the “airport” after work.  In case you don’t know who Hoppy is, that’s Gabby’s rabbit lovey.  She has three but “Finger Hoppy” is her favorite.  His name came from the hole in the center of the blanket that she likes to stick her finger in.  She started with “Boo” who was her bear lovey which we took away last year but we left her Hoppy because we didn’t want to be totally cruel.  At that point she had to have Boo, Hoppy and a blanket with her at all times.  We thought that was a little much.  She never talks about Boo though so I know we’ll be okay without Hoppy soon too.  We have been talking to her about it for a while so she was prepared and practically threw him at Michael to take to the airport.  I was more emotional about it than she was.  I actually teared up when he left.  I guess he was the final piece of her babyhood that we’re loosing (or taking away in this case).

Tonight she is sleeping with her 4 baby princesses from GranDeb and her big Dora from Papa Dino.  She hasn’t gotten upset yet although it’s 9:00 and she is still awake in bed.  We’ll see how it goes.

The Latest

Just an update with what we’ve been up to.  Gabby is officially potty trained (1 & 2).  Yea!!  We finally went against the “potty training rules” and took away a toy if she went in her pants.  It took 2 toys and she hasn’t had an accident since (3 weeks).  She even gets up in the mornings and goes by herself.  What a big girl!

Peter Michael is so so close to crawling.  In fact he kind of crawled once tonight but it was literally picking his knee up and moving it forward one time and then he was down on his tummy.  But I think it will happen very soon.  He now has his two bottom teeth and two upper teeth and is so cute.  He’s been in such a good mood since those have come in (as you can see from the below video).  He can say Dada (his favorite word), mama, bubba and I think he was trying to say Sissy yesterday.  At his 9 month appointment he was 21 lbs and was around 50th percentile for weight and height.

This is her “pretty” picture smile. :)

She’s waiting for her plants to grow here.  We planted cherry tomato seeds as a little science project.

Wow!  Static hair from jumping around on the bed.

I actually caught her in a cute smile mood versus the evil smile I normally get when I say smile pretty.

Gabby loves “sharing” Peter’s snacks which means he gets one then she gets one.

It’s pretty easy to get a laugh out of Peter lately.  I was tickling him here while he was eating.
